About Me

Wesley Rhodes is originally from Wilson, North Carolina. He earned his Bachelor of Science in university studies, with concentrations in music performance and psychology, from East Carolina University. At ECU, Rhodes helped establish a student recital that now opens the annual NewMusic Festival organized by the composition faculty at ECU. After finishing his undergraduate studies, Rhodes relocated to Durham, NC where he performed with community ensembles such as Triangle Wind Ensemble and Triangle Pride Band. He also served as a board member and librarian for Triangle Pride Band. In Durham, Rhodes also started volunteering for Music by Black Composers, an organization dedicated to raising awareness of and creating resources for classical music from the African Diaspora. As part of the project, Rhodes is putting together a database of clarinet repertoire. He is currently working towards a Master of Music in Clarinet Performance at the University of Kansas. His ultimate goal is to become a professor of clarinet at a university. He hopes to advocate for new music and living composers, as well as BIPOC musicians wanting to become classical music professionals.
